Summer at last

It seems to finally be summer here in southern BC, and I couldn't be happier about it. We have had quite the stretch of rainy days with a few sunny teasers in the mix. The long range forecast looks good and if their predictions are correct I am going to take full advantage.

My brother got married last weekend and we made the drive up to Nelson to be a part of it. The ceremony was at a beautiful B&B by the water. It was nice to see the love that they have for one another and there was so much joy going around as everyone that loves them was over the moon happy that they found each other.

The Gorgeous Ceremony

They did an awesome job planning the reception and it was a lot of fun! They had some really great ideas and made it fun for everyone, especially the children. Adrianah and her cousins had such a blast and I know they will remember it forever.

I'm so glad we were able to celebrate with them! I sure wish our families lived closer together.

This weekend is a long one as it's BC Day on Monday.  Jason has Friday's off as well so it makes for a nice long weekend. These 4 days off couldn't have come soon enough. Jason has been working over time lately and has been traveling a lot as well. He and I are burnt out for sure. We normally get a nice 3 week vacation every summer but there is just too much going on at his work right now for that kind of time off. So needless to say we have been milking this long weekend for all it's worth!

We ventured to the beach on Friday and weren't sure how long we would be able to stay (Landon usually determines how long we stay anywhere),  but it couldn't have gone better! Landon had a nice long nap on Jason in the shade while Adrianah and I built sandcastles. We even had time to build a moat around our castle. Actually I was the one building the sandcastle while Adrianah danced around in the water pretending to be a princess.

After Landon and Jason woke up we spent time as a family splashing in the water together. It was so nice! We don't normally get to have moments like this so Jason and I were very grateful. It was the kind of day I have longed for. The kind that I imagine and envy other families having. For a little while it felt like there wasn't anything different about our family. It was just a typical family day at the beach.

We are only half way through this long weekend and I am looking forward to what the next 2 days have in store. Church, sunshine, pool time, friends, wine, and a cricket match. =)

What happened to May?

So May came and went and I'm finally posting about Adrianah's party which was in the beginning of May. That's OK because I have been busy with some other exciting things. Which I will get to later.

But first, Adrianah's 4th Birthday Party!
It was a fun and colorful party. She invited over the girls from preschool for a very girly tea party lunch.

They played musical chairs, popped balloons and bubbles, colored and ate cake. Well actually they basically just ate icing. Which made for some excited and loud girls. It was so nice to see Adrianah have so much fun.

I really enjoyed putting this party together. I hand made the cupcake liners, cupcake toppers, the fabric chandelier, the mini pompom decorations and the flag garland. I was pretty much working on things here and there for a month. Whenever I could find the time. Like during The Bachelor. :)

It was a lot of fun and I love how it all came together.

A couple weeks later I was blessed to be at the hospital with my best friend while she gave birth to her first born. A sweet baby girl. Brooke Abigail. It was so amazing to see. She was so strong during it and it was amazing to see her and her husband be such a great team.

I also started playing Cricket in the last month. I've never played it before and have had to learn a lot. It's really fun and we have our first game this Sunday. I never would have thought I would be playing Cricket!

Jason and I just celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary. We had an awesome day together alone without the kids. That never happens! It was so nice. <3

Oh and we gave Rosie (our dog) away and after a month the people that took her gave her back! haha I think we'll keep her this time. :)

A Baby Shower

I have been busy the last month or so planning a baby shower for my best friend and had lots of fun doing it! I really enjoy planning and making things for parties. I'm not sure why I enjoy it so much. It's fun for me.

I started planning for the shower in January when I knew for sure I was doing this for her. There is so much good inspiration on the web which is where I got a lot of my ideas. I have been loving grey mixed in with other colors so it was easy to pick the yellow, grey and white colors to go with the elephant theme.

I printed out some photos of the mom and dad to be and put them in some dollar store frames that I painted white. I wish I had taken some pics of them but you can see one behind the cupcakes in this photo.

I have seen a lot of these flag banners on cakes lately and really wanted an excuse to make one. This mini felt flag banner was the first thing I made back in January. Eager much?

Of course there had to be matching ones to hang around the room too. :)

Instead of making individually wrapped favors like I normally do, I set out some jars of candy and some little baggies and let people fill up their own favor bag. I loved being able to snack on candy through out the evening!

We played a couple fun games. In one game everyone had a sheet with a list of features/attributes and they had to guess which ones the mom would want the baby to get from herself or from the daddy. After everyone filled out their sheet I read the list to Morgan and she had to hold up a mustache on a stick for the dad or lips on a stick for her. I so wish I got a photo of her holding up the mustache to her face.
I made yellow chocolate roses for prizes and the Grandma to be also got a brag book which is wrapped up in this pic.

So that was a fun one to plan and now I am in the middle of planning a Tea Party for my soon to be 4 year old daughter. Pics from that coming next week!

It's raining again, which is so typical of spring here in southern BC. We had a nice string of sunny days last week. What a treat that was. It was so nice to get outside with the kids. Taking the kids out into the school field had become part of our daily routine and it made for a much sweeter day.

I'm missing the sunshine today. The kids and I get a little stir crazy in the house and wish I could just take them somewhere fun today. It's just not that simple for us.

I've probably said this a few times before but I looooooove having a swing set in our little yard. Landon could swing away for an hour. It's such a nice simple treat for us. Maybe if there is a break in the rain today we'll wipe the swings off and take advantage of it.

Here's to hoping for brighter days.
